In June, I went to Cape Coral, Fl, to photograph the burrowing owls that live there. It’s the only place in Florida (that I know of) that has a concentrated population of them. Never having gone searching for burrowing owls before, my family was a little skeptical if we would find any, but we were blessed to see many of them sitting outside of their burrows which were scattered around Cape Coral, in vacant lots and on the perimeter of the ball field, etc. The owls are small and fun to watch. Some of the best times to see the young owls out of their burrows are late April to June. We went in June and the babies had their adult feathers but were still very cute. These images were taken in the early morning (the owls are supposed to be more active in the early morning and late afternoon) when the light was good for photos.

These two owls were involved in a preening session together where one was grooming the others one’s feathers.
